Today being another 4th of July, there is something different this year. Not only is the holiday on a Saturday but we have many unprecedented events. We have elections during a pandemic that has killed over 131,509+ Americans (as of July 3). We had international protests against police brutality over the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis. What is next for 2020?
This is the general history of the 4th of July. On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. So we are celebrating this holiday today on a Saturday due to the Founders of the United States.
A brief reminder of American history via preamble to Declaration of Independence, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
